Introduction

In Groningen (the Netherlands) a group of rehabilitation workers all employed by the UMCG (Groningen University Medical Center), department of Rehabilitation (CoR), have enthusiastically committed themselves to supporting rehabilitation care in Tanzania. The group’s dedication is to share the know-how of rehabilitation care with co-workers in Tanzania. By building a bridge between the UMCG CoR and Tanzania both parties are likely to benefit constructively.

The projects
We intend to realize one particular project within a health care center in Tanzania each year. Only recently, there was a Swallow Project. A rehabilitation physician and a speech therapist gave some seminars in the Dar es Salaam Muhambili University Hospital, for the purpose of reducing aspiration pneumonia following problematic swallowing. Sixty nurses participated. Response and results were very positive.
